Baton Pass - Week of October 19

Research shows that parents are the single most influential factor in a child’s faith. 82% of kids whose parents talk about and practice faith at home go on to follow Jesus as adults, compared to 36% whose parents simply bring them to church. Alabaster Kids is one hour a week. You have the rest. We want to help you make the most of it.

Sunday’s Big Idea

God wants us to know him. We began a new series on Alabaster’s vision: to see a city of spiritual seekers become a family of Spirit-filled saints. In Acts 17, Paul met people in Athens who were searching for God. He told them that the God they were looking for made everything, is not far from any of us, and wants to be known. We get to know Jesus by spending time with him. (Toddlers through kindergarten heard the story of the woman at the well. Jesus offered her living water, his love and Spirit that fills us up so we can love others.)

Memory Verse: “This is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and the one you have sent — Jesus Christ.” (John 17:3)

Discuss

  • What are some things people search for when they want to know who God is or what life is all about?

  • How do you get to know a friend better? What would it look like to do those same things with Jesus? (Talking, listening, spending time together.)

  • Jesus called his Spirit and love “living water.” When do you feel thirsty for his love or presence? What does it feel like to be filled up or for him to be near?

Practice & Pray

Try spending a few quiet minutes with Jesus together this week, maybe at bedtime. Close your eyes and take a few deep breaths. Imagine you’re in one of your favorite places, and Jesus is right there with you. Be still with him and listen for anything he wants to say. Then pray together: “Jesus, thank you that you want us to know you. Fill us up with your love, and help us share it with ______ this week.”
