Lead Pastor

COMPENSATION
Part-Time Salary

Alabaster Church exists to see a city of spiritual seekers become a family of spirit-filled saints. We live this out by following Jesus, as a family, for Asheville. Our communal life is organized around Sunday gatherings for prayer, worship, and teaching, sharing meals around the table in family dinners throughout our city, and growing together in discipleship cohorts where we practice apprenticing with Jesus together. We believe that to be a disciple of Jesus is to order our lives around his way (habits and practices), his truth (teaching and theology), and his life (Spirit and power).

Role Summary

The Ministry Coordinator provides the operational and administrative backbone for Alabaster Church — managing communications, logistics, systems, and volunteer coordination that support our life together as a church family.

Essential Job Responsibilities

  • Church-wide Communication — Alabaster Weekly Newsletter and incoming email

  • Event Hospitality — Coordinate Sunday gatherings and other church events (interest dinners, book clubs, classes): scheduling, space/setup, hospitality, sign-ups, and volunteer scheduling, personally and/or via volunteer teams

  • Operations, Calendar & Facilities — Maintain the master church-wide calendar, supply ordering, and room reservations at Hatchworks; serve as point of contact for the facilities relationship

  • Volunteer Leadership — Recruit, schedule, and — with the lead pastor — train volunteer teams

  • Church Management System, Website & Teaching Distribution — Develop and maintain the database (volunteer records, birthdays, communication lists, event sign-ups), keep the website updated, and edit/publish weekly teaching audio — including building a better distribution system (e.g., private podcast)

  • Connect & Care Coordination — Partner with Regional Leads on visitor follow-up (helping first-time attendees get connected) and care needs within the church family (e.g., meal trains, prayer requests)

Character Qualifications

(Adapted from 1 Timothy 3)
  • Integrity — Honest and trustworthy; the same person in public as in private, without a hidden or divided heart.

  • Self-Control — Free from excess — alcohol, temper, spending, or otherwise; steady when under pressure.

  • Conviction — Grounded in the core truths of the faith with a clear conscience; affirms Our Shared Truth and is committed to Our Shared Way

  • Humility — Tested and proven over time rather than quick to claim authority; teachable and willing to be known

  • Faithful — Manages household and closest relationships well (if married/parenting), as a sign of trustworthiness in wider responsibility

  • Servant Posture — Motivated by love rather than status, recognition, or personal gain

Competency Qualifications

Beyond character, this role requires practical skill and follow-through across a range of coordination and communication tasks:

  • Organizational Systems — Comfortable building and maintaining tools like a church management database, calendars, and event sign-ups; brings order to moving parts.

  • Written Communication — Writes clearly and warmly for a church-wide audience (newsletter, email correspondence).

  • Project Ownership — Can take a vague need and see it through its finish.

  • Hospitality — Able to anticipate and prepare what people need to feel welcomed — food, seating, space, tone.

  • Volunteer Leadership — Recruits, trains, and schedules volunteers with clarity and follow-up.

  • Attention to Detail & Follow-Through — Manages logistics (room reservations, supply ordering, event coordination) without things falling through the cracks.

  • Technical Adaptability — Willing to learn new tools/platforms (e.g., audio editing, podcast hosting, database software) as needs evolve.

Chemistry Qualifications

Beyond competency and character, we’re also looking for chemistry — genuine alignment with how our church's core values shape our team culture:

  • Sacrificial Worship — We give our best, not our leftovers. We bring our first and finest — time, energy, creativity — out of love, not obligation.

  • Radical Hospitality — We treat each other with warmth, joy, and vulnerability; we celebrate often, share the credit, and welcome feedback

  • Prophetic Discernment — We resist busyness and trend-chasing; We view prayer and reflection as our first and ongoing work; We value doing the right things, the right way, in the right order, at the right time.

  • Courageous Presence — We address tension or confusion directly; We communicate honestly; We avoid “office-politics” or passive-aggression

  • Quiet Mission — Little things done with great love. We do the work whether or not anyone's watching, and we'd rather be quiet pillars than noisy platforms.
